Weekly Recap: Beverly Hills Cop, Despicable Me 4, MaXXXine, KILL & the Best Films of the Year So Far!
Axel Foley is back, Gru is still despicable, and Maxine wants to be a star.
It’s Fourth of July weekend, and that brings one major blockbuster to theaters, one to homes, and some genre fair joins the other big films already in release. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F is a surprisingly solid return for Eddie Murphy’s iconic character. Despicable Me 4 delivers another dose of mediocre (at best) entertainment from Illumination. MaXXXine delivers 80s-style thrills, and KILL puts hardcore action sequences on a train. I’ve also put together a post covering my favorite films of 2024 so far. Plus, enjoy our latest podcast episodes covering A Quiet Place: Day One and the latest episode of The Summer of 2004 at 20 (Spider-Man 2 and Before Sunset this week!). So, feel free to check out all these reviews, podcasts, lists, trailers, and other fun. Enjoy, stay safe out there, and thanks for reading!

Summer 2004 at 20 - July 2-4, 2004: For one of the biggest movies, we deliver one of the biggest episodes! 5 big movies that are full of sequels, stars, Oscar hopes, and more! Spider-Man 2 isn’t the sole sequel here. Before Sunset delivers a part 2 as well. Willem Dafoe does double duty as he may only cameo as a nemesis in Spider-Man 2, but he’s a full-time one for Robert Redford in The Clearing. There’s also an “America F*** Yeah!” kinda documentary from Disney. And Kevin Kline tries for De-Oscar in De-Lovely!
